Private wine tours
Waiheke Wine Tours

Waiheke has dozens of vineyards on an island you can drive end to end in under an hour. The hard part is choosing. On a private Waiheke wine tour we choose with you: the right cellar doors for what you like to drink, tastings booked before you arrive, and a long lunch somewhere with a view. Just your group, up to four guests.

  • Private: just your group, up to four guests, with a local guide and a comfortable 4WD.
  • Three wine tours: 5, 6 or 7+ hours, from NZ$469 per person incl. GST & booking fees.
  • Tastings your way: add them when you book, or pay as you go, so you only pay for those tasting.
  • Everything booked: tastings, lunch and any extras are reserved before you land.

How tastings work

Every Waiheke cellar door charges for tastings, so you have two easy choices. Add tastings when you book: Estate or Reserve tastings are bundled per person, from NZ$60 for two Estate tastings with olive oil on us, up to NZ$225 for five Reserve tastings on the Ultimate (plus a small booking fee). Or pay as you go on the day: decide at each stop, so you only pay for those tasting.

Cellar doors open at 11am, so our 10am tours begin with an included olive oil and mānuka honey tasting at Allpress Olive Groves. We'll suggest the right mix of destination tastings when we plan your day, and book every one of them for you, including lunch, and dinner if you'd like to stay on.

Lunch with the wine

Lunch is part of every wine tour, booked for you and paid on the day. Mudbrick and Tantalus Estate both received a star in the first Michelin Guide New Zealand in 2026, and Kī Māha on Onetangi Bay received a mention. Or keep it relaxed: tapas at Casita Miro, a glass in the sun at Batch, or a long lunch on Man O' War Bay.

Not everyone drinks wine

That's fine. You only pay for those tasting, and there's plenty more to enjoy: olive oil and honey at Allpress, whisky and craft beer at The Heke, gin at Waiheke Distilling Co, beaches, lookouts and lunch with a view. Of course, our coastal and native bush walks are well worth a leisurely hike too, or at the very least a casual stroll along Onetangi Beach.

Vineyards we can take you to

A few of the cellar doors our guests love most. Tell us what you like to drink and we'll build the day around it, or see all our Waiheke vineyards and restaurants.

Mudbrick

Gardens, lavender and the view back to the Auckland skyline. Flagship and reserve tastings, and a restaurant awarded a Michelin star in 2026. Every West-End Icons tour finishes here.

Tantalus Estate

Sommelier-presented tastings and an outstanding reserve range, with a Michelin-starred restaurant (2026) and the Alibi craft brewery on show from the wine cellar. The terrace looks over the vines to the little Postage Stamp chapel and out across the Onetangi Valley.

Cable Bay

Big views over the vines to the Hauraki Gulf and the city, elegant wines and excellent food. A west-end classic, close to the ferry.

Batch Winery

High on the hill above Onetangi Beach, with views from the Coromandel to Auckland. Small-lot Syrah, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and bubbles, and lawns the kids love.

Stonyridge

Home of Larose, the Bordeaux-style red, since 1982. Ask about a Larose vertical tasting if you're serious about your reds.

Te Motu

One of Waiheke's original family vineyards, in the Onetangi Valley and known for its Bordeaux-style reds. Relaxed tastings at the cellar door, among the vines.

Soho

Waiheke's most playful vineyard: street art, waterfalls, botanical gardens and a big sunny deck in the Onetangi Valley, with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern plates at Harvey Eatery.

Man O' War

On its own bay at the far end, with a lunch restaurant on the water and tastings from its hillside vines. See how to get to Man O' War.

Passage Rock

Its Reserve Syrah is Waiheke's most awarded wine. A relaxed spot among the vines, and the owner often pours the wines on the terrace.

Waiheke wine tour questions

Quick answers below. For ferries, timings and what to bring, see our FAQ; where to stay helps if you're making a weekend of it.

  • How much is a wine tour on Waiheke Island?

Our private wine tours start from NZ$469 per person for the 5-hour West-End Icons Tour, NZ$549 for the 6-hour Epic Far-End Tour and NZ$599 for the full-day Ultimate Freedom Tour, for groups of three or four. For two guests, they're NZ$499, NZ$599 and NZ$699 per person. All prices include GST and booking fees; tastings, lunch and the ferry are extra.

  • Are tastings included?

Not in the tour price, so you only pay for those tasting. You can add Estate or Reserve tasting bundles when you book, or pay as you go at each cellar door, giving you freedom to choose what you would like to experience at each location.

  • Which Waiheke wineries should we visit?

It depends on what you like to drink and how much time you have. Tell us your favourite styles and we'll suggest the right mix, from big-view classics like Mudbrick and Cable Bay to small cellar doors at the far end.

  • Is a private wine tour better than a group tour?

On a private tour it's just your group, so the day runs at your pace: longer where you're enjoying yourself, and skipping anything you're not. Your guide and 4WD are yours for the whole tour, so there's never another group to hurry off to.

  • Can non-drinkers come on a wine tour?

Yes. Tastings are added per person or paid as you go, and there's plenty for non-drinkers: olive oil and honey at Allpress, beaches, lookouts and lunch with a view.

  • Do we need to book the ferry ourselves?

Yes. The ferry from downtown Auckland takes 40–45 minutes, and we meet you at Matiatia Wharf. We'll suggest which sailing to catch when we confirm your day.
